Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts and analyst models because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market aggregates dispersed information from participants betting their own capital on the outcome. Comparing the odds here to published forecasts from Japan Meteorological Agency or other weather services can reveal where the market is pricing in uncertainty or consensus that official models may not fully capture.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism, where each outcome contract trades against a liquidity pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price you see reflects the collective probability that participants assign to each temperature range, with wider spreads indicating greater uncertainty. As traders buy and sell outcome shares, the price adjusts dynamically, ensuring the market continuously reprices based on new information and shifting expectations about June 30 conditions in Tokyo.
This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once June 30 has passed and the lowest temperature recorded in Tokyo that day is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources documenting the actual low temperature. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome range receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution window typically closes shortly after the event concludes, allowing rapid settlement.
Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal anomalies, or updated long-range forecasts from meteorological agencies could significantly move odds in this market. El Niño or La Niña conditions, volcanic activity affecting atmospheric circulation, or unexpected heat waves across East Asia might all influence trader expectations. Additionally, real-time weather updates as June approaches, historical temperature comparisons, and shifts in global climate patterns could trigger repricing. Traders monitoring atmospheric pressure systems and upper-level wind patterns may adjust positions ahead of official forecasts.
