Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and financial incentives alongside expert analysis. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market aggregates the beliefs of participants who have money at stake. When odds shift significantly from analyst consensus, it typically signals either new data entering the market or traders pricing in uncertainty that models may underestimate. Comparing the two can reveal where public expectations differ most from professional predictions.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that converts buy and sell orders into real-time probability quotes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome has its own price, and the odds shift as traders deposit capital into winning or losing positions. The leading outcome currently reflects the market's strongest conviction. Prices remain dynamic until the market closes, allowing participants to enter or exit positions as new weather data or forecasts become available before the event concludes.
This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Tokyo for that date is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual meteorological reading on June 28, confirmed through official weather station data or recognized reporting agencies. Traders holding positions on the correct temperature range or exact value will receive their winnings once the event is finalized and the platform settles all positions accordingly.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or tropical system developments could significantly move odds in this market. Real-time atmospheric data releases, changes in jet stream positioning, or unexpected cold fronts would likely trigger repricing. Media coverage of unusual weather patterns or climate anomalies may also influence trader positioning. As June 28 approaches, each new forecast update from meteorological agencies will provide fresh information that traders incorporate into their bets, potentially swinging odds substantially if predictions shift.
