Prediction markets aggregate trader beliefs into real-time probabilities that often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts publish deterministic low-temperature predictions based on numerical models, this market reflects collective trader conviction weighted by financial stake. Comparing the current odds to published forecasts from Japan's Meteorological Agency or international weather services reveals whether traders expect conditions warmer, cooler, or aligned with official guidance. Such gaps can signal either market inefficiency or information traders possess ahead of consensus updates.
This market resolves around Jun 26, 2026, once June 26 concludes and the lowest temperature recorded in Tokyo is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources documenting the actual minimum temperature for that date. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the event, allowing rapid settlement and payout.
Weather model updates from major forecasting centers—including the Japan Meteorological Agency, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, and the U.S. National Weather Service—often trigger sharp repricing as traders incorporate new data. Seasonal atmospheric patterns, tropical cyclone activity, and upper-level wind anomalies can shift expectations significantly. Real-time satellite imagery and surface observations in the days leading up to June 26 will narrow uncertainty. Major weather headlines or unexpected system development could accelerate trading volume and shift odds materially.
