Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts issued by weather agencies. While meteorologists use physics-based models to project Shanghai's June 6 low, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader conviction, and economic incentives. Markets may price in tail risks or consensus shifts faster than official updates. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to China Meteorological Administration forecasts or international weather models reveals whether traders are more bullish or bearish on specific temperature ranges than professional analysts expect.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the lowest temperature in Shanghai on June 6 is priced as a set of binary or range-based outcome contracts, each representing a specific temperature threshold or band. Traders buy and sell shares reflecting their belief in whether the actual low will fall within that range. The market price of each contract reflects the collective probability assigned by participants. Liquidity, recent weather model updates, and seasonal climate patterns for early June in Shanghai all influence pricing dynamics. As resolution approaches on Jun 6, 2026, prices typically converge toward the realized outcome.
The market resolves on Jun 6, 2026 following the close of June 6 in Shanghai. Resolution is determined by the official lowest temperature recorded in Shanghai on that date. Outcome determination relies on verified meteorological data from official sources to establish which temperature range or threshold was actually reached. Once the final low is confirmed, the winning outcome is settled and traders receive payouts proportional to their holdings. The specificity of the temperature bands and the authoritative data source used ensure a clear, objective resolution.
Major weather pattern shifts, tropical cyclone activity, or monsoon onset timing could significantly alter Shanghai's June 6 low. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, El Niño or La Niña developments, and atmospheric pressure anomalies over East Asia will influence trader positioning. Real-time weather model runs in the days leading up to June 6 provide increasingly precise guidance, often triggering sharp odds movements. Historical climate data for early June and any unusual heat or cold waves in late May may also shift market expectations. As Jun 6, 2026 approaches, short-range forecasts become the dominant price driver.
