Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money consensus from traders worldwide, while meteorological forecasts from agencies like China's National Meteorological Center rely on physics-based models and historical data. Market prices often incorporate analyst predictions but may diverge based on trader positioning, recent weather patterns, or media attention. Comparing Polymarket odds to official Shanghai weather forecasts can reveal whether markets are pricing in more or less extreme temperature outcomes than traditional meteorologists expect for June 5.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, this event is priced using an automated market maker model where each temperature outcome has a corresponding share contract. Traders buy and sell shares representing specific low-temperature ranges for Shanghai on June 5, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned by the market. Liquidity and spreads vary by outcome; more heavily traded temperature bands typically show tighter bid-ask spreads, while less-traded extremes may have wider gaps between buy and sell prices.
The market resolves on Jun 5, 2026, after the lowest temperature recorded in Shanghai on June 5 is officially published. Resolution depends on identifying the actual minimum temperature reached that day from authoritative weather data sources. Once the official low is confirmed, the corresponding outcome contract is settled at full value while all other temperature outcomes expire worthless. Traders should monitor official Shanghai meteorological records as the resolution date approaches to anticipate the final outcome.
Major weather pattern shifts, tropical cyclone activity, or unexpected atmospheric blocking systems could significantly alter Shanghai's June 5 low temperature. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, real-time atmospheric data, and historical temperature anomalies for early June will influence trader expectations. As June 5 approaches, short-range weather models become more reliable, often triggering sharp market repricing. Additionally, any unusual heat waves or cold snaps affecting East Asia in late May could shift market odds for Shanghai's minimum temperature on that specific day.
