The resolution source for this market will be information from Wunderground, specifically the lowest temperature recorded for all times on this day for the Shanghai Pudong International Airport Station, available here: https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/cn/shanghai/ZSPD. To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the gear icon next to the search bar and switch the Temperature setting between °F and °C. This market can not resolve until the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Celsius (eg, 9°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on model ensembles, this market aggregates dispersed information from participants who profit only if their temperature prediction proves correct. Over time, prediction markets have shown competitive or superior accuracy to single-model forecasts, especially when the underlying event is verifiable and traders have sufficient time to refine their positions before resolution.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range has its own contract, and the price of a share reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric data—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The spread between buy and sell prices tightens as the market approaches resolution and uncertainty narrows.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once June 16 has passed and the lowest temperature in Shanghai can be verified from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual recorded minimum temperature on that date, typically reported by Shanghai's meteorological authority or international weather databases. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution is final once the data is confirmed and published.
Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric pressure systems can significantly move this market. A sudden cold front, unexpected monsoon activity, or revision to long-range forecasts will trigger repricing as traders reassess probabilities. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 16 narrow uncertainty and typically compress the odds around narrower ranges. Additionally, any unusual climate anomalies or extreme weather alerts issued by meteorological agencies will draw trader attention and shift positioning before the market closes.
