Prediction market odds reflect real-money incentives for accuracy, often incorporating meteorological forecasts, historical weather patterns, and seasonal trends faster than traditional analyst models update. While weather bureaus and climate analysts publish official temperature predictions, this market aggregates the views of many traders betting on the actual outcome. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts can reveal where the crowd sees risk or opportunity that official models may not yet fully price in, making it a useful cross-check for understanding temperature expectations around the event date.
On Polymarket, traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature outcomes, with the share price directly reflecting the market's probability estimate. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract's price moves based on supply and demand as new information arrives, whether from weather updates, seasonal patterns, or shifting trader conviction. The top outcome currently reflects strong consensus, but prices remain dynamic until resolution, rewarding early insight and punishing miscalibration right up to the close of trading.
This market resolves around Jul 6, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Shanghai on July 6 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual meteorological data reported for that date, confirmed through official weather records. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range at resolution receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless, creating the incentive structure that drives accurate pricing throughout the market's lifetime.
Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal monsoon activity, and updated meteorological forecasts from regional agencies can significantly move prices in this market. Unexpected atmospheric conditions, heat waves, or cold fronts affecting East Asia may trigger rapid repricing as traders adjust their positions. Additionally, historical temperature anomalies for early July in Shanghai and real-time atmospheric pressure data serve as key signals. As the event date approaches, increasingly precise short-range forecasts will likely narrow the range of plausible outcomes and concentrate trading volume around the most probable temperature bands.
