Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because traders incorporate a broader range of signals—historical patterns, real-time atmospheric data, and model uncertainty—into their pricing. While weather analysts publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on numerical models, this market aggregates the distributed knowledge of many participants with financial skin in the game. The odds can shift rapidly as new weather data arrives or consensus models update. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more pessimism or optimism than official forecasts suggest, offering insight into tail-risk expectations around Seoul's June 30 conditions.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares in outcome buckets representing different temperature ranges for June 30 in Seoul. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the probability assigned by the market; higher prices indicate stronger consensus that a given temperature band will occur. Liquidity and order flow determine how quickly prices adjust when new information emerges. Traders profit by correctly predicting which outcome materializes, creating strong incentives for accurate pricing and continuous refinement as the event date approaches.
This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winning outcome is determined by the actual lowest temperature recorded in Seoul on that date, measured against the predefined outcome buckets established at market creation. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout once the result is finalized and verified. The resolution process is automated once the data is confirmed, ensuring all participants receive payouts fairly and transparently.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and anomalous atmospheric conditions can all trigger significant repricing in this market. Tropical cyclone activity, monsoon timing changes, or unexpected heat waves would push odds sharply. Real-time meteorological model updates—especially from high-confidence runs closer to June 30—often spark trading surges as participants recalibrate. Historical temperature records for Seoul in late June also serve as anchors; any new climate data or El Niño/La Niña developments could reshape trader expectations. As the event date nears, intraday weather reports and final model consensus typically drive the most volatile price movements.
