Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists rely on numerical models and historical data, this market aggregates dispersed information from participants who profit only if their predictions prove correct. Comparing current odds to published forecasts from Seoul's meteorological authority can reveal where the market is pricing in tail risks or consensus blind spots. Such gaps sometimes signal either market inefficiency or information the broader forecast community has yet to fully weight.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the cost to buy a share reflects the current probability assigned by the market. As traders accumulate positions, prices adjust dynamically to balance supply and demand. The more capital flowing into a particular outcome, the higher its price climbs, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism that updates throughout the trading window.
This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Seoul on June 15 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological data, typically published by South Korea's weather service. Whichever temperature bracket contains the actual low for that day will be confirmed as the winning outcome, and traders holding shares in that bracket receive their payout. Resolution is automatic once the data is finalized and validated.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or tropical system developments could significantly alter odds in this market. Real-time atmospheric data releases and model consensus changes often trigger repricing as traders adjust their positions. Unexpected jet stream movements or anomalous pressure systems affecting East Asia may also influence expectations. Additionally, as June 15 approaches, intraday forecast updates from meteorological agencies typically drive final adjustments, with the market becoming increasingly sensitive to short-range model guidance in the final days before settlement.
