Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and collective trader judgment rather than model-based predictions alone. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the views of traders betting on actual outcomes. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from meteorological agencies can reveal where the crowd expects conditions to differ from official models, though both sources remain valuable for understanding temperature expectations on July 9.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares, with the contract price reflecting the collective probability assigned to each temperature range. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more capital flowing into a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, creating a dynamic market where odds shift continuously based on new information, weather updates, or changing trader conviction. This mechanism ensures that prices remain responsive to evolving conditions leading up to July 9.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Seoul on July 9 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the predefined temperature thresholds embedded in the contract. Once the event occurs and official measurements are confirmed, the winning outcome shares are paid out according to the market's rules, and all positions settle accordingly.
Weather forecasts updated by major meteorological agencies will likely drive significant price swings as they refine predictions for Seoul's conditions. Seasonal weather patterns, atmospheric pressure systems, and any unusual climate events in the region could shift trader expectations. Additionally, historical temperature data for early July and real-time weather developments closer to the date will influence positioning. Major shifts in long-range forecasts or unexpected weather anomalies may trigger rapid repricing as traders adjust their bets based on new information.
