Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment, historical accuracy patterns, and risk premiums. While weather analysts issue deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial stakes in the outcome. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from Seoul's meteorological authority can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus, though both sources draw from similar underlying weather data.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) model. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket is represented as a separate contract, and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric data—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The spread between bid and ask prices tightens as liquidity increases, rewarding early information and punishing stale positions.
This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Seoul on July 8 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the final temperature reading against the predefined brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the bracket that contains the actual low temperature receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end time, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed.
Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric anomalies can all shift trader positioning significantly. A sudden change in jet stream patterns, tropical storm formation, or heat dome forecasts would likely move prices sharply. Real-time satellite imagery and upper-atmosphere data released by meteorological agencies often trigger repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for Seoul in early July and any unusual climate events in the region can influence how traders weight different outcomes. As July 8 approaches, intraday temperature readings and final model consensus will drive the most volatile price swings.
