Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and a financial incentive for accuracy. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants betting actual capital on the outcome. Comparing the current odds to published forecasts from Seoul's meteorological authority or international weather services can reveal whether traders are pricing in more optimism or pessimism than official models suggest. This gap sometimes signals emerging consensus that differs from the latest analyst consensus.
This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Seoul on July 12 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual low temperature for that date against the threshold specified in the contract. Once the event occurs and the data is confirmed, the market settles automatically, and traders' positions are paid out according to whether their prediction matched the realized outcome. No further trading occurs after resolution.
Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal forecasts, and updated meteorological models can significantly move this market. Tropical storm systems, monsoon intensity changes, or anomalous heat waves tracked by forecasters will prompt traders to reassess probabilities. Real-time updates from Seoul's weather service, international climate models, and even broader regional heat events can trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, as the event date approaches, intraday weather reports and satellite data become more precise, often causing sharp moves in the final days. Social media discussions and news coverage of extreme weather can also influence trader sentiment and order flow.
