Prediction market odds reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time information, uncertainty premiums, and incentives for accuracy. While meteorologists publish deterministic point forecasts or confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market prices outcomes probabilistically—traders who bet incorrectly lose money, creating a financial discipline absent in many public forecasts. Comparing the implied probability from market odds to analyst confidence intervals can reveal where the crowd sees additional risk or opportunity relative to expert consensus.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the ratio of shares bought and sold for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders purchase shares representing "yes" or "no" positions, and the price adjusts dynamically as the pool of liquidity shifts. Higher trading volume typically narrows bid-ask spreads and increases price stability, while lower volume can widen spreads. The current odds reflect the latest consensus among active traders on the platform.
This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once July 10 has passed and the lowest temperature in Seoul can be verified from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual recorded minimum temperature against the threshold specified in the contract. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed. Traders' positions settle based on whether the real-world temperature matched the predicted outcome.
Weather model updates and seasonal forecasts are primary drivers—shifts in atmospheric patterns, monsoon activity, or heat waves can alter expectations for Seoul's July temperature. Major weather announcements from meteorological agencies, tropical storm developments, or unusual pressure systems weeks in advance may trigger repricing. As July 10 approaches, short-range forecasts become more reliable and can cause sharp odds movements. Real-time conditions on the day itself, including cloud cover and wind patterns, may also influence late trading before the market closes.
