Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, consensus expectations, and evolving data. While meteorologists issue point forecasts or confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market reflects the aggregated belief of traders who have financial incentive to be accurate. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to published analyst predictions can reveal where the crowd sees value or risk that official forecasts may underweight. Over time, prediction markets have demonstrated competitive accuracy against expert judgment, particularly when traders have access to the same underlying data and strong incentives to correct mispricings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader bets into real-time odds for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the cumulative volume in each range determines its implied probability. As new information emerges or trader sentiment shifts, prices adjust dynamically. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects market liquidity and uncertainty; tighter spreads indicate high confidence and trading activity, while wider spreads suggest lower conviction or fewer active participants in that particular outcome band.
This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Paris on July 13 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the predefined temperature ranges offered in the market. Traders who held positions in the correct range at resolution receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event concludes, once official temperature records are published and confirmed by the platform.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can significantly move this market. If meteorological agencies issue revised predictions showing an unexpected cold front or heat wave approaching Paris, traders will reprice their positions accordingly. Short-term catalysts include daily weather model updates, anomalies in jet stream behavior, and any unusual climate events in the preceding weeks. Additionally, as July 13 approaches, the market typically becomes more sensitive to short-range forecasts and actual observed temperatures, since uncertainty naturally decreases closer to the event. Breaking news about regional weather systems or climate anomalies can also trigger rapid repricing.
