Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information asymmetries. While meteorologists rely on numerical weather models and satellite data to issue point forecasts, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from the UK Met Office or other agencies can reveal where the crowd expects conditions to differ from official predictions, though both sources draw from similar underlying atmospheric data.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that adjusts odds based on buy and sell volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature outcome is represented as a tradable contract, and the current price reflects the probability the market assigns to that range occurring. As new information emerges—updated weather models, seasonal shifts, or real-time conditions—traders adjust their positions, causing prices to move dynamically until resolution.
This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in London on June 30 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual minimum temperature reading against the predefined outcome brackets available for trading. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end time, after official meteorological data is published and confirmed.
Major weather model updates, seasonal anomalies, and atmospheric pressure systems over the North Atlantic can shift odds significantly. Publication of extended forecasts from the Met Office, changes in jet stream patterns, or unexpected climate events weeks before June 30 may prompt traders to reassess probabilities. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and real-time atmospheric conditions in late June will drive final price adjustments as the resolution date approaches.
