Frequently asked questions

The London temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the lowest temperature expected in London on June 17. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current probabilities for each outcome band alongside 24-hour volume and order-book depth. This live pricing reflects collective market sentiment about weather conditions on that specific date, updated continuously as new information and trading activity flow in.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and uncertainty pricing. While meteorologists issue point estimates or confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market prices in the full distribution of outcomes and reflects how traders weigh competing scenarios. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from the UK Met Office or similar agencies can reveal where the market is pricing in tail risks or consensus blind spots that analysts may underweight.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range has its own share token, and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As traders accumulate positions or new information emerges, the pool rebalances and prices shift, creating a continuous discovery mechanism that aggregates dispersed knowledge about London's weather on June 17.

This market resolves around Jun 17, 2026, once June 17 has passed and the lowest temperature recorded in London that day is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual low temperature against the predefined outcome bands offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless.

Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric anomalies—such as unexpected high-pressure systems or cold fronts—can significantly move prices in this market. Real-time meteorological alerts, changes in long-range forecasts, and historical temperature comparisons for mid-June will influence trader positioning. Additionally, any unusual climate or weather news affecting the UK region could trigger repricing as participants reassess the probability of extreme lows or unusually mild conditions on that date.
