This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the lowest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 6 Jun '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Min (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts issue point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader conviction, and financial incentives. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to official Hong Kong Observatory forecasts or international weather models can reveal whether markets are pricing in more or less extreme outcomes than consensus models suggest, helping identify potential mispricings.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the lowest temperature outcome is priced through binary or multi-outcome contracts where each temperature threshold or range has its own contract. Traders buy and sell shares reflecting their belief in whether the actual low will fall within that bracket. Prices move continuously as new information arrives—such as updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric data—and as traders adjust positions. The current market price directly reflects the collective probability estimate of all active participants.
The market resolves on Jun 6, 2026, after the lowest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on June 6 is officially reported. Resolution depends on the specific outcome criteria defined in the market contract—typically which temperature range or threshold the actual low falls into. Official meteorological data from the Hong Kong Observatory or equivalent authoritative source determines the final outcome and triggers settlement of all positions.
Several factors can shift odds for this event. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies—especially those showing changes in atmospheric pressure, wind patterns, or cloud cover—often trigger significant repricing. Seasonal climate anomalies, ocean temperature variations, and tropical weather systems approaching the region can alter expectations. Real-time observations as June 6 approaches, including actual overnight lows in the days before, provide concrete data that traders incorporate. Historical temperature patterns for that date and time-of-year also influence market positioning.
