Frequently asked questions

The Hong Kong temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the lowest temperature forecast in Hong Kong on June 27. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to each outcome. The dashboard displays current odds, historical price movements, and 24-hour trading volume of $723, giving you a live snapshot of how the market is pricing this specific weather event.

Prediction market odds emerge from decentralized trading rather than expert consensus, often incorporating real-time data and diverse participant perspectives. While meteorologists and weather services publish deterministic forecasts based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the probabilistic views of traders who have financial incentive to be accurate. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd's assessment of June 27's low temperature aligns with or diverges from professional meteorological guidance, offering insight into market confidence relative to expert opinion.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range outcome has its own price, which moves based on order flow and liquidity. The odds you see reflect the current ratio of shares held and traded; as new information emerges or sentiment shifts, prices adjust in real time. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to changing expectations about the weather outcome.

This market resolves around Jun 27, 2026, once June 27 has passed and the lowest temperature recorded in Hong Kong that day can be verified. The outcome is determined by comparing trader predictions against the actual observed low temperature from credible public weather reporting. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, allowing winning positions to be settled and payouts distributed to traders who correctly predicted the temperature range.

Weather model updates, seasonal climate patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems approaching Hong Kong will all influence trading activity. Major weather alerts, typhoon warnings, or significant shifts in meteorological forecasts can trigger sharp price movements as traders reassess probabilities. Real-time temperature data from the days leading up to June 27, along with broader climate anomalies or El Niño effects, may also drive volatility. News about air quality or pollution events affecting local conditions could further sway market sentiment closer to the resolution date.
