This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the lowest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 9 Jul '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Min (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and market incentives alongside official weather models. While meteorologists publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market reflects what traders are willing to stake on specific temperature outcomes. Analyst forecasts tend to be more conservative and model-driven, whereas market prices can shift rapidly in response to breaking weather patterns, seasonal anomalies, or new satellite imagery. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is more or less bullish on extreme temperatures than professional forecasters expect.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares in competing temperature outcomes through an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome represents a specific temperature range, and the cost of a share reflects the current probability assigned by the market. As traders place orders, the price adjusts to balance supply and demand, ensuring that the sum of all outcome probabilities equals 100 percent. This continuous pricing mechanism allows participants to enter or exit positions at any time before resolution, with spreads tightening as more volume flows into the market and consensus strengthens around likely outcomes.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once July 9 has passed and the day's minimum temperature in Hong Kong is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the lowest temperature recorded during that calendar day, measured in degrees Celsius. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout once the result is confirmed and the market is settled. The resolution process is objective and based on official meteorological data, ensuring all participants have equal access to the same factual basis for determining winners.
Major weather pattern shifts, tropical storm warnings, or monsoon activity could significantly alter market odds in the weeks leading up to July 9. Updated seasonal forecasts, anomalous sea-surface temperatures, or atmospheric pressure systems developing over Southeast Asia may trigger sharp repricing. Real-time satellite imagery and short-range model consensus updates typically drive the most volatile moves in the final 7–10 days. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and time-of-year climatology serve as anchors; any forecast suggesting an extreme departure from the norm could spark rapid trader repositioning. Breaking climate or air-quality events affecting the region may also influence how traders assess the likelihood of cooler or warmer outcomes.
