Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Hong Kong July 8 temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the lowest temperature forecast on that specific date. The interface displays current trader sentiment through live probability estimates, along with 24-hour volume and liquidity metrics. Participants can view the full order book and recent trade history to understand how market participants are pricing different temperature outcomes. This dashboard provides transparency into how the prediction community expects Hong Kong's minimum temperature to range, updated continuously as new information and trades flow in.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment, historical forecast accuracy, and broader uncertainty. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and satellite data to project the lowest temperature, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who may weight recent patterns, seasonal anomalies, or model disagreement differently. Comparing the implied probability here to official forecasts from Hong Kong's Observatory can reveal whether traders are pricing in more or less confidence than experts express. These differences highlight how markets capture information beyond standard meteorological outputs.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the ratio of shares bought and sold for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders purchase shares representing their belief about whether the lowest temperature will fall within a specific range, and the price of each outcome adjusts dynamically as volume flows in. The market's probability reflects the weighted consensus of all participants, with larger trades moving prices more significantly. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures liquidity and allows traders to enter or exit positions throughout the event window.

This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once July 8 has passed and the lowest temperature recorded in Hong Kong is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual minimum temperature on that date against the predefined ranges offered in the market. Resolution occurs after official meteorological data is published and confirmed, ensuring all traders have access to the same factual basis. Early resolution is not typical unless the event is cancelled or data becomes permanently unavailable.

Updated weather models and forecasts from meteorological agencies will likely shift trader positioning as they become available. Seasonal weather patterns, tropical storm activity, or unusual atmospheric conditions in the region could trigger significant repricing. Historical temperature data releases or revisions may also influence expectations about what constitutes a typical July 8 low. Major climate or weather news affecting East Asia could prompt traders to reassess their positions. As the date approaches, intraday forecast updates and real-time weather observations will drive the most volatile price movements.
