This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the lowest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 3 Jul '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Min (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.

Prediction market odds and traditional weather analyst forecasts often diverge because they reflect different methodologies and incentive structures. Meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical climate data, while prediction market participants incorporate real-time information, consensus sentiment, and financial incentives to forecast accurately. This market aggregates the distributed knowledge of traders who have skin in the game, potentially capturing nuances that standard forecasts miss. Comparing the implied probability from this market against official weather service predictions for the same date can reveal where market participants expect conditions to differ from baseline expectations.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares representing different temperature outcomes, with the market price reflecting the collective probability assigned by participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome contract trades independently, and the price of a share—expressed as a decimal between 0 and 1—represents the implied likelihood of that outcome occurring. As new information emerges or trader sentiment shifts, prices adjust in real time. The most active outcome currently reflects strong conviction among market participants about the likely low temperature range.
This market resolves around Jul 3, 2026, once the lowest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on July 3 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual observed low temperature against the predefined ranges or thresholds embedded in each contract. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless.
Several factors could shift odds in this market before resolution. Updated weather models or seasonal forecasts showing shifts in atmospheric patterns may prompt traders to adjust positions. Tropical storm systems, monsoon activity, or unusual heat patterns in the region could trigger significant repricing. Real-time weather alerts or official warnings from Hong Kong's meteorological service may also influence trader sentiment. Additionally, historical temperature anomalies or climate data releases could provide new information that changes expectations about the likely low temperature range for that specific date.
