Similar to New York, Boston area residents will watch rainfall amounts at the city's main airport during the same weekend. The focus remains on whether weather conditions produce surpassing certain precipitation levels as recorded by designated meteorological sources.
The markets resolve to Yes if the total precipitation measured at Boston Logan Airport (KBOS; BOS on the TWC daily dashboard) during September 26–27, 2026 exceeds the specified threshold, measured in inches. The total precipitation is calculated as the sum of The Weather Company's daily precipitation values for each reporting day within the period. If The Weather Company provides an official total for the exact period, that value takes precedence over the summed daily values. Data will be sourced from The Weather Company's dashboard at https://weather.com/kalshi.
Currently, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than many traditional weather forecasts. While analysts might provide a single point estimate or a range for rainfall, this market allows traders to express a distribution of beliefs about all possible outcomes. This can reveal disagreement or uncertainty that isn't captured in a simple forecast. It’s common to see discrepancies, as prediction markets reflect the collective wisdom of many participants, while analyst forecasts represent the opinion of a single source or team. This market provides a unique view of potential rainfall amounts.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders submit buy and sell orders for contracts representing different rainfall amounts. The price of each contract reflects the market’s assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the market remains responsive to changing conditions and incorporates the latest insights from participants.
This market resolves around Sep 28, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the total amount of rainfall recorded at a designated weather station in Boston during the specified weekend period. The exact rainfall measurement will be sourced from a reputable meteorological data provider, ensuring an objective and transparent determination of the winning outcome for this market. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings or settle their losing positions.
Several factors could significantly influence this market. Changes in the official weather forecasts from the National Weather Service or other meteorological organizations would be key drivers. Unexpected shifts in weather patterns, such as the development of a coastal storm, could also cause substantial price movements. Even public perception and media coverage of the forecast could impact trading activity and, consequently, the market’s odds. Any new data regarding atmospheric conditions or long-range models will likely be incorporated into traders’ assessments and reflected in the price of contracts.
