Currently, this market suggests a strong inclination toward 7–9 states being in D4 drought, reflecting trader expectations based on available climate models and historical patterns. Many analysts issue similar ranges in their seasonal drought outlooks, though their confidence intervals often differ. The market’s implied probability offers a quantitative snapshot of collective trader judgment, which can diverge from or align with expert assessments depending on recent weather trends and federal drought monitoring updates.
This market resolves around Sep 3, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the U.S. Drought Monitor’s weekly update for the week of September 1, 2026, will be used to determine how many states are classified under D4 (Exceptional Drought). The result will reflect the official map published by authoritative climate and agricultural agencies, ensuring an objective and transparent resolution process.
Several signals could shift this market before it resolves. Key weather pattern developments — such as El Niño or La Niña formations — may influence drought severity nationwide. Additionally, federal and state water management announcements, major agricultural crop failures, or unprecedented heatwaves could sway trader sentiment. Weekly U.S. Drought Monitor updates will also serve as immediate catalysts, with any expansion or contraction of D4 zones likely to create rapid price adjustments on Polymarket as traders reassess probabilities.
