Frequently asked questions

The Wuhan temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Wuhan on June 19. The interface displays current trader positioning, 24-hour volume of $4,699, and cumulative trading activity across all outcome brackets. Traders use this data to monitor how market sentiment shifts as the forecast date approaches, with each temperature range priced independently. The dashboard updates continuously, allowing participants to compare their own weather expectations against the collective market view.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and crowd wisdom rather than a single model's output. While weather analysts publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the beliefs of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. Comparing the implied probability from this market to published forecasts from China's national weather service or international models can reveal where traders expect conventional predictions to miss. Such gaps sometimes signal emerging consensus about model bias or data uncertainty.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds for each temperature outcome through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each bracket—such as 28–30°C, 30–32°C, and so on—trades as a separate contract with its own price, and all brackets must sum to 100 percent. As traders place orders, the price of each outcome moves inversely to demand, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism. This design encourages arbitrage and attracts both casual forecasters and sophisticated weather analysts seeking profitable positions.

This market resolves around Jun 19, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Wuhan on June 19 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official meteorological data reported for that date, typically from China's national weather monitoring network or internationally recognized weather databases. Resolution occurs after the trading window closes and the final temperature reading is confirmed, at which point the winning bracket is paid out in full and all other positions expire worthless.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can all shift odds significantly. If tropical systems develop or high-pressure systems strengthen over central China, traders will reprice their bets upward or downward accordingly. Historical temperature anomalies for early June in the Wuhan region also influence positioning, as do broader climate indices like the East Asian monsoon strength. As June 19 approaches, each new weather model run and satellite observation narrows uncertainty and can trigger sharp repricing, especially if forecasts diverge from earlier consensus.
