Prediction market odds reflect the aggregated beliefs of thousands of traders with real money at stake, often diverging meaningfully from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market incorporates trader intuition, recent pattern shifts, and emerging atmospheric signals that may not yet be fully weighted by official forecasts. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts from major weather services can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric risk—for instance, if traders are pricing a hotter outcome than models suggest, it may signal concern about model bias or late-season heat anomalies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the balance of buy and sell orders across temperature outcome buckets. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders purchase shares in their preferred temperature range, and the price of each share reflects the crowd's real-time confidence in that outcome. As new weather data or forecasts are released, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The tighter the spread between bid and ask prices, the more confident and liquid the market; wider spreads indicate uncertainty or lower trading activity.
This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Wuhan on July 12 is confirmed and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official temperature reading from recognized meteorological authorities or weather stations serving the Wuhan region. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature range will receive their payout based on the final verified data. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day on July 12, allowing the market to settle quickly once the day's high temperature is finalized.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases will drive significant price movements in this market. Tropical systems, monsoon intensity changes, or unexpected heat waves in East Asia could all reshape trader expectations. Additionally, revisions to long-range models or anomalies in sea-surface temperatures may trigger repricing. As July 12 approaches, hourly weather updates and short-term forecasts will become increasingly influential. Early morning temperature readings on the day itself can also sway late traders positioning for the final outcome, especially if the day starts warmer or cooler than expected.
