Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Wellington temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and 24-hour trading volume for predictions on the highest temperature in Wellington on June 25. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and recent trading activity. With total volume of $212,371 and recent 24-hour activity at $119,445, this market reflects active trader participation. The dashboard shows the probability distribution across temperature outcomes, allowing participants to monitor how market sentiment shifts as the event date approaches and new weather data emerges.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader expectations and risk sentiment alongside historical weather models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and established forecasting techniques, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who have financial incentives to price outcomes accurately. Comparing market-implied probabilities to official weather service forecasts can reveal where traders expect conditions to differ from baseline predictions. Both sources offer value: analysts provide technical expertise, while markets capture forward-looking sentiment and uncertainty that may not be fully reflected in standard forecasts.

This market resolves around Jun 25, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The highest temperature recorded in Wellington on June 25 will be measured and matched against the available outcome brackets. Once the actual temperature is established and reported by official weather monitoring sources, the market will settle automatically to the corresponding outcome. Traders holding contracts on the correct temperature range will receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and atmospheric pressure systems tracking toward New Zealand could significantly move this market. Real-time weather alerts, changes in long-range models, and unexpected climate anomalies may trigger repricing as traders adjust their expectations. News about ocean temperatures, El Niño or La Niña conditions, and historical temperature comparisons for late June in Wellington can all influence trading activity. As the resolution date approaches, intraday weather updates and short-term forecasts will likely drive increased volatility and volume, with final price movements reflecting the most current meteorological data available.
