Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning, risk appetite, and forward-looking sentiment. While meteorologists issue point estimates or confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates dispersed information through price discovery. Traders may price in uncertainty or tail risks that analysts downplay, or vice versa. Comparing the implied probabilities here to Environment Canada or other official forecasts can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric value or where consensus is strongest.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker or order-book model. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the price of a share reflects the probability the market assigns to that outcome occurring. As new weather data arrives or forecasts shift, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The sum of all outcome probabilities should equal 100%, ensuring internal consistency across the full range of possible temperatures.
This market resolves around Jun 13, 2026, once June 13 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Toronto is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources such as Environment Canada or other recognized meteorological records. Once the official high temperature is published, the market settles to the outcome bracket containing that value, and traders holding the winning shares receive their payout. Early resolution is unlikely unless the event is postponed or cancelled.
Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric pressure systems can significantly move prices in this market. If forecasters issue revised outlooks showing a warmer or cooler June 13, traders will reprice accordingly. Heat waves, cold fronts, or unusual jet-stream positioning in the days leading up to the event will trigger trading activity. Real-time temperature readings on June 13 itself may cause sharp repricing as the actual high becomes clearer. Media coverage of extreme weather or climate anomalies can also influence trader sentiment and liquidity.
