Prediction market odds and traditional weather analyst forecasts often diverge because they reflect different methodologies. Meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data to project temperature ranges, while traders in this market aggregate dispersed information and financial incentives into a single price signal. Markets can sometimes lead or lag official forecasts depending on how quickly new data is incorporated. Comparing the implied probabilities from this market to Environment Canada's official forecast or other meteorological agencies can reveal where traders see additional risk or opportunity relative to expert consensus.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome contracts that represent different temperature ranges for July 3 in Toronto. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract trades between 0 and 100 cents, with the price reflecting the collective probability assigned by the market. Higher prices indicate stronger trader conviction that a particular temperature outcome will occur. Liquidity and order-book depth determine how easily you can enter or exit positions, and prices adjust dynamically as new information emerges or trading volume shifts between outcomes.
This market resolves around Jul 3, 2026, once July 3 has passed and the highest temperature in Toronto can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public sources that record official temperature data for the city. Once the event is verifiable from reliable reporting, the market settles and traders' positions are finalized based on which outcome bracket the actual temperature falls into. All participants receive payouts proportional to their correct predictions.
Several factors can shift prices in this market before resolution. Updated seasonal forecasts or long-range weather models that suggest hotter or cooler conditions will influence trader positioning. Major weather systems or heat waves affecting eastern Canada can trigger rapid repricing as new data becomes available. Media coverage of climate anomalies or historical temperature records may also sway sentiment. Additionally, real-time meteorological updates closer to July 3 typically drive the most significant moves, as uncertainty narrows and traders adjust their bets based on the most current forecasts.
