Prediction market odds on Polymarket often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts issued by Japan's Meteorological Agency and international weather models. While meteorologists publish deterministic or probabilistic temperature ranges based on atmospheric modeling, prediction markets aggregate trader beliefs into implied probabilities that may weight recent data, seasonal patterns, or climate anomalies differently. Markets can react faster to breaking weather updates or shift based on speculative positioning. Comparing Polymarket odds to official forecasts helps identify whether traders are pricing in more optimistic or pessimistic temperature scenarios than experts currently project.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Tokyo on June 13 is priced through outcome tokens representing discrete temperature ranges or specific thresholds. Each outcome token trades at a price reflecting its implied probability; for example, a token priced at 0.65 implies a 65% chance that outcome occurs. Traders buy and sell these tokens based on their weather expectations, and the market price continuously adjusts to balance supply and demand. Polymarket's automated market maker or order-book mechanism ensures prices remain responsive to new information and trading flow right up until the Jun 13, 2026 resolution deadline.
The market resolves on Jun 13, 2026, after the highest temperature recorded in Tokyo on June 13, 2026, is officially reported. Resolution hinges on identifying the single highest temperature reading from that calendar day, typically sourced from Japan's Meteorological Agency or recognized weather stations in Tokyo. The outcome is binary or categorical depending on how the market's outcome tokens are structured—for instance, traders may have bet on whether the high exceeds a specific threshold or falls within a defined range. Once the official temperature data is published and verified, the winning outcome is determined and traders' positions settle accordingly.
Several factors can shift odds before Jun 13, 2026. Major weather pattern changes—such as a shift from a high-pressure system to a low-pressure trough—will trigger immediate repricing as traders update their forecasts. Seasonal climate anomalies, including El Niño or La Niña effects, influence long-term temperature expectations. Updated meteorological forecasts from Japan's weather agency or international models often move markets when they revise temperature outlooks. Urban heat island effects and local air quality events can also sway sentiment. Additionally, historical temperature records for June 13 in prior years and any unusual atmospheric conditions reported in the weeks leading up to June 13 may prompt traders to adjust their positions.
