Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and risk appetite alongside expert models. While weather analysts publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. Comparing the implied odds here to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where the market is pricing in tail risks or consensus blind spots. Both sources offer value: analysts provide detailed reasoning, while market odds reflect distributed information and financial incentives.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range is represented as a separate outcome token, and the price of each token reflects its implied probability. As traders adjust their positions based on new weather data or model updates, the pool rebalances and prices move accordingly. Higher trading volume typically narrows spreads and increases price accuracy, while lower liquidity can widen the gap between bid and ask prices.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once June 16 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Tel Aviv that day is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources reporting the official daily maximum temperature. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution process is automated once the data is available, ensuring all positions settle fairly and transparently.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or sudden atmospheric anomalies can significantly move odds in this market. Heat waves, cold fronts, or unusual wind patterns affecting the Eastern Mediterranean region may trigger repricing. Real-time model updates from meteorological agencies often spark trader activity as new data becomes available. Additionally, historical temperature records or analogous past events on June 16 in Tel Aviv may influence positioning. Close to resolution, intraday weather developments and live temperature readings will drive final adjustments.
