Prediction market odds reflect real-money commitments from traders and often incorporate meteorological forecasts, historical temperature patterns, and seasonal data faster than traditional analyst consensus. While weather bureaus and meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals, this market aggregates dispersed trader knowledge into a continuous probability distribution across temperature ranges. The two approaches complement each other: analyst models provide scientific rigor, while market prices reveal where informed participants believe the actual high will land, sometimes diverging when new satellite data or atmospheric models shift expectations between forecast updates.
On Polymarket, traders buy and sell shares corresponding to different temperature outcomes, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to each bracket. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market uses an automated market maker to set prices based on order flow and liquidity, meaning odds adjust continuously as new trades arrive. Participants profit by correctly predicting whether the actual high will fall into their chosen range, incentivizing them to incorporate the latest weather models, historical June patterns, and real-time atmospheric conditions into their trading decisions.
This market resolves around Jun 27, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Taipei on June 27 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the official temperature reading against the predefined brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the outcome bracket that matches the verified high will receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day, pending confirmation from reliable meteorological data.
Updated weather models and extended forecasts are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Tropical systems, monsoon patterns, or unexpected atmospheric blocking could shift expectations significantly. Real-time satellite imagery and upper-air data released by meteorological agencies often trigger repricing as traders adjust their confidence in specific temperature ranges. Historical anomalies, such as unseasonable heat or cool spells, may also influence positioning. As June 27 approaches, intraday forecasts and actual morning conditions will likely cause final volatility, with traders locking in positions based on the most recent observations.
