Prediction market odds reflect real-money trader conviction and aggregate dispersed information, whereas traditional meteorological forecasts rely on physics-based models and historical climate data. This market prices the likelihood that Taipei's high will reach 37°C or above, offering a market-driven perspective that can diverge from official weather bureau predictions. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more or less extreme heat than conventional forecasters expect, providing a complementary signal for assessing temperature risk.
On Polymarket, traders buy and sell shares representing "yes" (37°C or higher) and "no" (below 37°C) outcomes, with prices determined by automated market-making and order-book dynamics. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the collective assessment of all active traders; as new information emerges or event date approaches, prices adjust to balance supply and demand. Share prices range from 0 to 1 and directly represent the implied probability of each outcome.
This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution hinges on whether Taipei's highest recorded temperature on June 18 reaches or exceeds 37°C. Traders holding winning shares receive their payout once the final temperature is established and the market settles, typically within hours of the close.
Weather model updates, seasonal climate patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems tracking toward Taiwan can all shift odds in this market. Official forecasts from Taiwan's Central Weather Administration carry particular weight, as do broader regional heat waves or monsoon activity. As June 18 approaches, real-time weather data and intraday temperature readings will increasingly influence trader positioning, with sharp moves likely if forecasts suddenly show extreme heat or cooling trends.
