Prediction market prices often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they aggregate real-time trader conviction rather than relying solely on meteorological models. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric data, this market reflects collective belief about the actual high on that specific day. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts from regional weather services can reveal whether traders expect conditions to deviate from official predictions, offering a complementary signal for assessing temperature risk.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket is priced independently, and the cost to buy a share reflects the current probability assigned to that outcome. As new information emerges—such as updated weather models or seasonal patterns—traders adjust their positions, moving prices higher or lower. The spread between bid and ask prices tightens as more volume flows through the market, making it easier to enter or exit positions near fair value.
This market resolves around Jul 11, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Taipei on July 11 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official meteorological data for that date, ensuring an objective and transparent settlement. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution process typically completes within hours of market close, allowing rapid settlement and payout distribution.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and tropical system developments can significantly move prices in this market. Real-time atmospheric data releases, changes in jet stream positioning, and anomalies in sea surface temperatures may prompt traders to reassess their positions. Additionally, historical precedent—such as past July 11 temperatures in Taipei—can anchor expectations and trigger repricing if new information contradicts seasonal norms. Close to the event date, intraday weather updates and overnight model runs often produce sharp volatility as traders fine-tune their final bets.
