Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds reflect real-money trader sentiment and often incorporate meteorological data faster than traditional analyst forecasts. While weather analysts publish seasonal and monthly temperature expectations for Singapore, prediction markets allow traders to price specific daily highs with granular precision. Market odds tend to converge toward consensus when new weather models or satellite data emerge, whereas analyst forecasts update on fixed schedules. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in tail risks that analysts may underweight.

On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, this event is priced as outcome contracts tied to the recorded high temperature on that date. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges or specific thresholds, with prices reflecting the probability each outcome occurs. The market uses an automated market maker to set prices based on order flow and liquidity. As May 31 approaches and weather forecasts sharpen, prices adjust to reflect updated meteorological expectations and trader positioning.

The market resolves on May 31, 2026 after the highest temperature for May 31 in Singapore is officially recorded. The outcome is determined by the actual daily maximum temperature reported by the relevant meteorological authority for Singapore on that date. Once the official reading is published, the winning outcome is confirmed and traders' positions settle according to which contracts matched the final result.

Major weather pattern shifts, monsoon onset timing, and updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies can significantly move odds. Tropical cyclone activity or unusual atmospheric pressure systems affecting Southeast Asia may trigger repricing. Real-time weather model updates in late May will sharpen predictions as the date approaches. El Niño or La Niña conditions, if they intensify or weaken, could alter baseline temperature expectations. Traders also respond to historical temperature anomalies and any unusual heat waves reported in the region during May leading up to the 31st.
