Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Singapore temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for contracts tied to the highest temperature recorded in Singapore on June 30. Traders buy and sell shares reflecting their conviction about whether the peak temperature will hit specific thresholds. The dashboard displays current odds, cumulative trading volume, and order-book depth, giving you a live snapshot of market sentiment around tropical weather conditions on that date. This transparent pricing mechanism lets you compare your own forecast against the collective prediction of active traders.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and risk appetite alongside scientific models. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the financial stakes of participants betting on the outcome. Comparing the implied probability here to official forecasts from Singapore's Meteorological Service can reveal whether traders are pricing in tail risks or consensus expectations. Both sources offer value: analysts provide technical rigor, while markets reflect dynamic, incentivized judgment.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell pressure. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract represents a binary outcome—for instance, whether the highest temperature will be 26°C on June 30—and the price of each share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As traders deposit capital and place orders, the pricing curve shifts, ensuring liquidity and continuous price discovery. This mechanism rewards accurate forecasters and penalizes poor predictions, creating strong incentives for informed participation.

This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Singapore on that date becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the contract's specified threshold. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days after the event, once official temperature readings are published and confirmed. Traders holding the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless.

Market prices will shift in response to updated weather forecasts, seasonal climate patterns, and real-time atmospheric conditions as June 30 approaches. Major signals include tropical storm warnings, monsoon activity, or anomalous heat patterns reported by meteorological agencies. News of El Niño or La Niña effects on Southeast Asian temperatures can also trigger repricing. As the date draws closer, intraday temperature trends and humidity forecasts will likely drive increased trading volume and volatility, reflecting traders' refined estimates of the final outcome.
