The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Celsius (eg, 9°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations, which often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts issued by weather agencies and climate analysts. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information and trader conviction. Comparing Polymarket odds to official forecasts from China's National Meteorological Center or regional weather bureaus can reveal whether markets are pricing in more optimistic or pessimistic temperature scenarios. These differences highlight how market-based probability estimates sometimes lead or lag behind expert consensus.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Shenzhen on June 9 is priced through outcome tokens representing discrete temperature ranges or specific degree thresholds. Traders buy and sell these tokens, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to each outcome. The market typically segments temperatures into bins—for example, under 30°C, 30–32°C, 32–34°C, and above 34°C—allowing granular price discovery. As June 9 approaches and weather models update, token prices adjust to reflect changing expectations about Shenzhen's peak temperature that day.
The market resolves on Jun 9, 2026, after the highest temperature in Shenzhen on June 9, 2026 has been recorded and officially reported. Resolution depends on verified meteorological data from recognized weather stations in Shenzhen, ensuring accuracy and preventing disputes. The outcome is determined by the actual peak temperature recorded during the calendar day, measured in degrees Celsius. Once the official reading is confirmed, the winning outcome token is paid out and losing tokens expire worthless.
Several factors could shift market odds before June 9. Updated seasonal weather forecasts, particularly from meteorological agencies, often trigger significant repricing as traders adjust expectations. Broader climate patterns—such as approaching typhoons, heat waves, or cold fronts—can dramatically alter temperature expectations. Historical temperature data and anomalies for early June in Shenzhen inform baseline assumptions. Real-time atmospheric conditions in the weeks leading up to June 9, including ocean temperatures and pressure systems, will influence trader positioning. Major weather events or model consensus shifts typically generate the largest price movements.
