Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader beliefs about Shenzhen's peak temperature on June 4, often diverging from traditional weather analyst forecasts. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical climate data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader expertise, and financial incentives. Comparing the market's leading outcome probability to official forecasts from China's meteorological authority or international weather services can reveal whether traders expect conditions warmer, cooler, or aligned with consensus predictions. Such gaps often signal emerging data or market-specific sentiment shifts.
On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Shenzhen on June 4 is priced as outcome shares, with each temperature range or specific threshold representing a distinct contract. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares at prices reflecting their belief in each outcome's probability; higher prices indicate stronger conviction. The market uses an automated market maker model, so prices adjust dynamically as volume flows into or out of each temperature bracket. Liquidity and trading depth vary by outcome, influencing how easily traders can enter or exit positions at competitive prices.
The market resolves on Jun 4, 2026, after the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on June 4 is finalized. Resolution depends on official meteorological data, typically sourced from China's national weather service or recognized local monitoring stations. The specific temperature reading that qualifies as the daily high is determined by standard measurement protocols at the designated weather station. Once the official figure is published and verified, the winning outcome is determined and trader positions settle accordingly.
Several factors can shift market odds for Shenzhen's June 4 high temperature. Seasonal weather pattern updates, tropical cyclone formation or dissipation, and upper-atmosphere pressure systems can all influence expected conditions. Updated meteorological forecasts from major weather agencies typically move prices as traders recalibrate. Historical climate anomalies, El Niño or La Niña activity, and real-time atmospheric data releases also drive trading. As June 4 approaches, short-term weather models become more reliable, often triggering sharp repricing. Traders monitor satellite imagery, humidity levels, and wind patterns to anticipate whether conditions will be hotter or cooler than the current market expectation.
