Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trading and broader information signals beyond raw weather models. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many traders with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to published analyst forecasts can reveal where the crowd sees risk differently—for instance, if traders are pricing in a higher chance of extreme heat than official forecasts suggest. Both sources offer value, but they answer slightly different questions about what will actually occur.
This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on that date becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual meteorological reading from official weather stations or recognized reporting agencies. Once the event passes and the data is confirmed, the market settles automatically based on which temperature bracket or threshold the final reading falls into. Traders holding the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless.
Several factors can shift prices in this market before resolution. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies will influence trader expectations, especially as June 28 approaches and models become more precise. Seasonal climate patterns, unusual atmospheric conditions, or heat waves affecting the region could trigger repricing. Real-world events like changes in urban development or air quality alerts may also sway sentiment. Additionally, as the date draws closer and uncertainty narrows, prices typically become more stable unless a dramatic forecast shift occurs. Early trading often reflects longer-term uncertainty, while final hours tend to reflect the most recent and reliable data.
