Prediction market odds reflect real-money trader positioning and aggregate dispersed information, while traditional meteorological forecasts rely on physics-based models and historical climate data. This market's current odds may diverge from official weather service predictions because traders incorporate broader uncertainty, geopolitical factors, and longer-term climate patterns. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts from China's meteorological authority or international weather models can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric risk. Markets often price tail risks differently than deterministic models, making the comparison valuable for understanding consensus versus outlier scenarios.
This market resolves around Jun 26, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on June 26 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data to the temperature thresholds embedded in each outcome share. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout once the event is confirmed and the market settles. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day, allowing winners to withdraw winnings promptly.
Major weather pattern shifts, tropical cyclone formation, or significant atmospheric anomalies in the South China Sea region could trigger sharp repricing. Official meteorological authority forecasts released in the days before June 26 often drive volume spikes and odds adjustments. El Niño or La Niña updates, monsoon intensity reports, and real-time satellite imagery of cloud cover and sea surface temperatures all influence trader positioning. Unexpected heat waves or cold fronts affecting Southeast Asia may also shift expectations. As the event date nears, intraday temperature readings and final 48-hour forecasts typically create the most volatile trading.
