Frequently asked questions

The Shenzhen temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in Shenzhen on June 19. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with the current market price reflecting the collective prediction of participants. The dashboard displays 24-hour trading volume of $13,723, cumulative volume of $13,723, and live bid-ask spreads across all available outcome brackets. This gives you a transparent view of how market participants are pricing temperature expectations as new weather data and forecasts emerge.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and broader information flows beyond official weather models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants who have financial incentive to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to published forecasts from weather agencies can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk. Markets tend to update faster than periodic analyst updates, making them a useful complementary signal for tracking shifting expectations around Shenzhen's peak temperature.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the ratio of shares held in each temperature outcome bucket. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders purchase shares at prices reflecting the current probability of each bracket, and the market price updates continuously as buy and sell orders flow in. Higher trading volume typically narrows spreads and improves price accuracy. The outcome shares are mutually exclusive—only one temperature range will resolve to 100 cents at settlement, making the sum of all outcome prices equal to one dollar.

This market resolves around Jun 19, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on June 19 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official meteorological data for that date, typically published by China's national weather service or equivalent authoritative reporting. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature bracket receive the full payout, while incorrect predictions expire worthless. Resolution occurs shortly after the day concludes and data is finalized, allowing the market to settle and payouts to be distributed.

Major weather pattern shifts, tropical cyclone activity, or unexpected heat waves in the region could significantly move this market. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, real-time atmospheric pressure changes, and historical temperature anomalies for early June all influence trader positioning. Breaking news about climate events affecting southern China or shifts in monsoon patterns may trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, as June 19 approaches, intraday weather updates and live temperature readings will drive final adjustments. Traders monitor both long-range models and short-range forecasts to adjust their positions ahead of resolution.
