Frequently asked questions

The dashboard for the Shenzhen temperature market displays real-time odds and historical price movements for traders betting on the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on June 18. You can monitor how market participants are pricing different temperature outcomes, track cumulative trading volume, and observe shifts in consensus as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This live feed helps you understand which temperature ranges the crowd expects most likely, making it easier to spot opportunities or validate your own weather analysis before placing a trade.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because traders incorporate real-time data, historical patterns, and their own risk assessments into prices. While weather agencies publish point forecasts and confidence intervals, this market aggregates the collective judgment of many participants with financial skin in the game. Comparing the implied probability from market odds to official forecasts can reveal where traders are more or less bullish on extreme heat than experts, offering a useful cross-check for your own weather outlook.

On Polymarket, traders set odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell volume for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more capital flowing into a particular temperature range, the higher its implied probability climbs. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures liquidity and allows you to enter or exit positions throughout the trading window, with the spread between bid and ask reflecting real-time supply and demand for each outcome.

This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on that date is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the single highest temperature reading reported for the day, typically from official meteorological stations or widely recognized weather data providers. All positions settle based on which temperature bracket the final verified reading falls into, with payouts distributed accordingly to winning traders.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can all shift odds significantly. Tropical systems, monsoon activity, or unexpected heat waves in the region would push traders toward higher temperature outcomes. Conversely, cooler-than-normal patterns or cloud cover predictions might lower implied temperatures. As June 18 approaches, intraday weather updates and short-range model consensus will likely drive the most volatile repricing, especially in the final 48 hours before resolution.
