Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shenzhen temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for contracts tied to the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on June 14. Traders buy and sell shares based on their conviction about whether the peak temperature will hit specific thresholds. The dashboard displays current odds for the leading outcome, 24-hour trading activity, and cumulative volume across all related contracts. This live data reflects the collective forecast of market participants and updates continuously as new trades execute, giving you an up-to-the-minute snapshot of crowd sentiment on this weather event.

Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts often diverge because they operate on different incentives. Market participants put real capital at risk, creating a financial penalty for inaccuracy, whereas analysts may face softer accountability. For temperature predictions like this one, meteorological models from official weather services provide probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric physics, while traders here synthesize those models, historical patterns, and real-time data into a single price. When the two align closely, it suggests high confidence; when they diverge, it may signal either market skepticism of official guidance or traders pricing in tail risks that models underweight. Comparing both sources often yields the sharpest picture.

This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on June 14 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the contract thresholds traders have wagered on. Once the event passes and official temperature readings are published, the winning contracts are settled and payouts are distributed to holders. No further trading occurs after resolution, and the final result becomes locked into the market history.

Several factors can shift odds in this market before Jun 14, 2026. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies—especially those showing shifts in wind patterns, humidity, or cloud cover—often trigger repricing. Seasonal climate anomalies or heat waves affecting southern China can push traders to revise their temperature expectations upward. Real-time atmospheric data, satellite imagery, and model consensus updates published in the days leading up to June 14 will influence positioning. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and broader climate trends may prompt traders to adjust their bets. Each new data release creates an opportunity for the market price to move as participants reassess their conviction.
