Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money consensus from traders worldwide, while meteorological forecasts from agencies like China's National Meteorological Center rely on physics-based climate models. Prediction markets often incorporate analyst predictions but also price in broader uncertainty, geopolitical factors, and historical volatility. For Shenzhen's June temperature, markets may diverge from official forecasts if traders believe seasonal patterns or climate anomalies will shift outcomes. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is more bullish or bearish than institutional experts, offering a complementary perspective on likely outcomes.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Shenzhen on June 12 is priced as a set of outcome shares, each representing a specific temperature range or exact value. Traders buy and sell these shares, with prices reflecting the probability of each outcome occurring. The market uses an automated market maker or order-book mechanism to determine prices based on supply and demand. As new information emerges—such as seasonal forecasts or climate data—traders adjust their positions, moving prices to reflect updated expectations. Share prices always sum to one dollar, so higher prices indicate higher perceived probability.
The market resolves on Jun 12, 2026, after the highest temperature in Shenzhen on June 12 has been recorded and verified. Resolution depends on official temperature data from a designated meteorological authority, typically China's National Meteorological Center or Shenzhen's local weather station. The exact outcome is determined by comparing the recorded high temperature against the predefined outcome brackets or thresholds established at market creation. Once the official reading is confirmed, the winning outcome shares are paid out at full value, and losing shares expire worthless.
Several factors could shift odds for Shenzhen's June 12 high temperature. Seasonal weather pattern updates from meteorological agencies, El Niño or La Niña developments, and long-range climate forecasts will influence trader expectations. Real-time atmospheric conditions in late May and early June—such as heat waves, monsoon activity, or tropical systems—directly impact daily highs. Urban heat island effects and local air quality events may also play a role. As June 12 approaches, short-range forecasts become more accurate, typically narrowing the range of likely outcomes and concentrating trading volume around the most probable temperature bands.
