Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shenzhen temperature market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price movements for predictions on the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on July 5. The interface shows current trader positioning, 24-hour trading volume of $65,563, and cumulative volume of $103,752 across all outcome brackets. Traders use this data to monitor how market sentiment shifts as the event date approaches, with granular temperature ranges allowing precise forecasting. The dashboard updates continuously as new trades execute, reflecting the collective intelligence of the prediction market community on this specific weather outcome.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information asymmetries. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market aggregates the financial commitments of thousands of participants betting on specific temperature ranges. Traders who possess local knowledge, access to specialized forecasting tools, or contrarian views can move odds away from consensus. Over time, prediction markets have demonstrated competitive accuracy against expert forecasts, particularly when liquidity is robust and participants face genuine financial incentives to forecast accurately.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the ratio of capital allocated to each temperature outcome bracket. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the price of each share reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As traders accumulate positions, the market maker adjusts prices to maintain balance, ensuring that the sum of all outcome probabilities equals 100 percent. This mechanism allows continuous trading without a traditional order book, and prices remain transparent and discoverable throughout the event window.

This market resolves around Jul 5, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on July 5 is confirmed and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the final temperature reading against the predefined brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the winning bracket receive their payout proportionally, while losing positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the event closing, pending verification of the official temperature data from reliable meteorological authorities.

Major weather pattern shifts, tropical storm activity, or unexpected atmospheric conditions in the South China region could significantly alter odds in this market. Updated seasonal forecasts, changes in urban heat island effects, or anomalous climate data released by meteorological agencies may trigger trader repositioning. As July 5 approaches, real-time weather alerts and short-term model updates typically increase volatility. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and time-of-day patterns in Shenzhen often influence late trading, as participants refine their estimates based on the most recent observational data and refined forecasts.
