Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shenzhen temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for contracts tied to the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on July 11. The interface displays current market pricing, 24-hour trading volume, and outcome probabilities as traders buy and sell shares based on their forecasts. This market aggregates collective trader sentiment about whether the peak temperature will fall within specific ranges, allowing you to monitor how expectations shift as the event date approaches and new weather data emerges.

Prediction market odds reflect decentralized trader consensus and often incorporate real-time weather model updates, satellite data, and seasonal patterns faster than traditional analyst forecasts. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on numerical weather prediction systems, this market prices in the collective judgment of participants with financial incentives to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts from regional weather services can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus, though both approaches ultimately depend on the same underlying atmospheric conditions.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract represents a specific temperature range, and the price of a share reflects the probability that outcome will occur. As more traders bet on higher or lower temperatures, the market price adjusts in real time, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism. Liquidity and trading volume directly influence how tight the spreads are and how quickly prices respond to new weather information or model updates.

This market resolves around Jul 11, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on July 11 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the official temperature reading to the predefined ranges offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day, pending confirmation from reliable meteorological or municipal data.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and tropical cyclone activity in the region could significantly move prices in this market. Real-time atmospheric pressure changes, monsoon intensity reports, and heat dome formation over southern China are key catalysts traders monitor. Additionally, historical temperature anomalies and urban heat island effects specific to Shenzhen's geography influence expectations. As July 11 approaches, each new weather model run and satellite observation can trigger repricing, especially if predictions diverge sharply from earlier consensus or if extreme heat warnings are issued by regional authorities.
