Frequently asked questions

The dashboard for the Shenzhen temperature market on Polymarket displays real-time odds on what the highest temperature in Shenzhen will reach on July 10. Traders can monitor price movements, historical odds trends, and current market sentiment as participants buy and sell shares reflecting their forecasts. The interface shows the leading outcome alongside competing predictions, giving you a live snapshot of how the market is pricing different temperature thresholds. This data helps you understand which temperature ranges the crowd expects most likely, updated continuously as new trades occur.

Prediction markets aggregate the collective judgment of many traders with real money at stake, often revealing signals that differ from traditional weather forecasts. While meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market reflects traders' beliefs about what will actually occur, incorporating both official forecasts and market participants' own analysis. Comparing the odds here to published analyst predictions can highlight where consensus diverges or where the crowd sees additional risk. Both sources offer value: models provide scientific rigor, while markets capture distributed information and incentivized decision-making.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares tied to specific temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on a particular temperature range, and the price reflects the probability the market assigns to that outcome occurring. As traders update their positions based on new weather data, model runs, or other signals, the price adjusts in real time. The leading outcome currently reflects the crowd's strongest conviction, though competing temperature thresholds remain actively traded.

This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen on July 10 is confirmed and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the temperature thresholds defined in the market. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the event, pending final data verification.

Updated weather models and forecasts from meteorological agencies will likely shift odds as July 10 approaches. Seasonal patterns, atmospheric pressure systems, and any unusual weather events in the region could reshape trader expectations. Real-time satellite imagery and preliminary temperature readings on the day itself may trigger sharp repricing. Additionally, historical comparisons to prior July temperatures in Shenzhen and any climate anomalies reported by regional weather bureaus could influence how traders adjust their positions leading up to resolution.
