Prediction market odds reflect real-money bets from traders and typically incorporate meteorological forecasts, historical climate data, and seasonal patterns for Shanghai in early June. Analyst forecasts from weather services and climate models provide independent baseline expectations. Market odds may diverge from analyst consensus when traders identify mispricing or when new information emerges. Comparing the two reveals whether the market is pricing in more optimistic or pessimistic temperature scenarios than professional meteorologists, helping identify potential value in the prediction market.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Shanghai on June 7 is priced through outcome shares representing different temperature ranges or specific thresholds. Traders buy and sell shares corresponding to their belief about which temperature outcome will occur, with prices reflecting the collective probability estimate. The market uses an automated market maker or order-book mechanism to determine prices based on supply and demand. As the event date approaches and new weather data emerges, prices adjust dynamically to reflect updated expectations.
The market resolves on Jun 7, 2026, after the highest temperature in Shanghai on June 7, 2026 has been recorded. Resolution is determined by official temperature data from recognized meteorological sources monitoring Shanghai's weather on that date. The outcome is typically the peak temperature reading captured during the specified day, measured in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit depending on market specifications. Once the official data is confirmed and reported, the market settles according to which outcome bracket or threshold the actual temperature falls into.
Weather pattern shifts, seasonal climate anomalies, and updated meteorological forecasts closer to June 7 will influence market pricing. Major weather systems such as monsoons, tropical storms, or heat waves affecting East Asia could significantly alter temperature expectations. Long-range climate models and official weather service updates will provide new information that traders incorporate into prices. Historical temperature data for Shanghai in early June and any unusual atmospheric conditions in the weeks leading up to the event may also trigger repricing as market participants adjust their probability estimates.
