Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader beliefs about Shanghai's June 5 high temperature, often incorporating meteorological data and seasonal patterns. Traditional weather forecasts from meteorological agencies typically focus on point estimates or narrow ranges, while prediction markets price a full distribution of outcomes. Market odds may diverge from official forecasts when traders anticipate unusual weather patterns, climate anomalies, or when forecast uncertainty is high. Comparing the two reveals whether markets are pricing in tail risks that analysts downplay or vice versa.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Shanghai on June 5 is priced through outcome shares that traders buy and sell, with each share representing a specific temperature range or threshold. The current implied probability of the leading outcome reflects the ratio of capital allocated to that outcome relative to total liquidity. As traders update their views on atmospheric conditions, seasonal trends, and climate data closer to June 5, prices adjust dynamically. The spread between bid and ask prices indicates market confidence and liquidity depth for this weather event.
The market resolves on Jun 5, 2026, after the highest temperature in Shanghai on June 5, 2026 has been recorded. Resolution is determined by the official maximum temperature reported for that calendar day in Shanghai. The outcome is typically verified against data from China's meteorological authority or a designated reference source specified in the market rules. Once the official temperature is confirmed, the winning outcome shares are paid out and losing shares expire worthless.
Major weather systems, monsoon patterns, and atmospheric pressure changes over East Asia in early June could significantly shift market odds. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies may trigger repricing if they indicate unusual heat or cooler conditions. Real-time weather alerts, tropical cyclone activity, or unexpected jet stream behavior weeks before June 5 could move traders' expectations. Historical temperature records for Shanghai in early June and climate anomaly indices also influence pricing. As the event date nears, short-term forecasts become more precise, typically reducing uncertainty and stabilizing prices.
