Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shanghai temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for whether the highest temperature in Shanghai will reach 31°C or higher on June 30. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading volume to help traders monitor sentiment around this weather outcome. By watching these metrics, participants can gauge how the market's collective forecast evolves as the event date approaches and new weather data becomes available.

Prediction market odds reflect real-time trader conviction and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical climate data, this market aggregates the beliefs of traders who have financial incentive to price outcomes accurately. Comparing the implied probability here against published forecasts from meteorological agencies can reveal where market participants expect conditions to differ from baseline predictions, offering a complementary view of June 30 temperature expectations in Shanghai.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent "yes" (31°C or higher) or "no" (below 31°C) outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price reflects the cumulative bids and asks from all participants, with each share worth $0.00 to $1.00 depending on perceived probability. As new information emerges—updated forecasts, seasonal patterns, or atmospheric data—traders adjust positions, moving the price to reflect changing expectations about Shanghai's peak temperature on the specified date.

This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once June 30 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Shanghai can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public sources documenting the actual peak temperature for that day. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless. The resolution hinges solely on whether the verified high temperature meets or exceeds 31°C.

Several factors could shift odds in this market before Jun 30, 2026. Updated seasonal forecasts, El Niño or La Niña patterns, and real-time atmospheric pressure systems all influence Shanghai's expected temperature. Major weather events—tropical cyclones, heat waves, or unusual cold fronts—can trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records and recent June trends in the region may prompt traders to adjust positions. As the event date nears, each new meteorological bulletin or model update typically generates trading activity.
