Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shanghai July 10 temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for contracts tied to the highest temperature forecast in Shanghai on that date. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading volume, allowing participants to monitor how the community's collective prediction evolves as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This market reflects trader sentiment about whether temperatures will reach specific thresholds, with odds updating continuously as bets are placed and settled throughout the trading period.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information asymmetries alongside official weather models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the financial incentives of participants betting on the outcome. Comparing the current odds to published forecasts from Shanghai's meteorological bureau or international weather services can reveal whether traders are pricing in more optimism or caution than official models suggest, making the market a useful barometer of collective confidence in specific temperature ranges.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares of yes/no contracts, with the price reflecting the probability that the highest temperature will match the specified threshold. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract trades between 0 and 1 cent, where the current price represents the implied likelihood of that outcome occurring. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric conditions—traders adjust their positions, causing prices to shift and revealing updated market consensus on Shanghai's July 10 temperature.

This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once July 10 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Shanghai for that day is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources documenting the actual weather conditions. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature range will receive their winnings, while those on the losing side of the contract forfeit their stake. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end date, once official temperature data is published and validated.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or anomalous atmospheric conditions could significantly move odds in this market. Real-time meteorological alerts, changes in monsoon intensity, or unexpected heat waves affecting East Asia may prompt traders to reassess their positions. Additionally, historical temperature records for Shanghai in early July and any emerging climate data could influence expectations. As the date approaches, actual daily temperatures in the days leading up to July 10 will likely trigger price adjustments, with traders using recent trends to refine their predictions about the final day's peak temperature.
